Rabbits
(Oryctolagus cuniculus domesticus)
Rabbits are the third most popular pet kept here in the UK but are also sadly among the most mistreated and neglected as well. Countless rabbits spend unhappy lives confined to small hutches, alone and with little or no space to exercise, mostly because their carers simply don’t realise what’s involved before taking them on.
Rabbits are beautiful, inquisitive animals who deserve to live full and enriched lives. They are complex animals with very specific needs and it's important to do your research before bringing one home to make sure you can provide the best environment for them. Remember; a healthy, happy rabbit can live over 10 years, so this is a big responsibility!
We are asked to take rabbits in every day, and this is a sad reflection on our society.
We have several beautiful rescued rabbits with a safe Forever Home here at the sanctuary, and we hope to be able to help more in the future (some of our chicken residents are temporarily staying in some of our rabbit runs at the moment).
Forever in Our Hearts
Although these beautiful rabbits are no longer with us and are missed so very much, they live on always in our hearts and minds. As long as we continue to speak their names and tell their stories, they are still with us and will never be forgotten!
